Enso 120 Pendant

Enso is a circle shaped by gravity. A linear pendant, its long cylinder of coated washi paper glows warm and soft from within, held by two panels of solid oak that join along the top — no screws, no visible fixings. There is nothing inside the paper: the washi holds its own form, and so, over time, it yields gently to gravity, settling from a near-perfect circle into a soft oval, never quite perfect, never quite the same.
Named for the ensō, the Zen circle drawn in a single breath, Enso finds its beauty in that imperfection. Designed by Lars Vejen and handcrafted from Japanese washi paper and Danish oak. Made in Denmark.

Enso explores the relationship between craftsmanship, gravity and imperfection. Handcrafted in Denmark, the shade is a single sheet of specially coated Japanese washi paper. Flame-resistant, and stiff enough to hold its own shape, with no frame inside it. An oak panel runs along each long edge, the paper held by a wedge set into the solid wood; the two panels join around the light with strong magnets, drawing the washi into a cylinder, no screws anywhere in the piece.
This is what sets Enso apart: the coated paper is self-supporting, so the cylinder is entirely open inside, a clean volume of light with no structure to interrupt it. Its only framework is the oak joinery along the top. The simplicity you see is the whole achievement; the craft lies in how much has been left out.
Inspired by traditional Japanese joinery and combined with modern LED technology, Enso is built to last and to be renewed. The lightweight washi softly diffuses a warm, gentle light, while the solid oak brings warmth, structure and precision to the silhouette. The dimmable LED sits concealed within the oak. You see only the paper glowing from within, and both the light element and the shade unit can be replaced, so the piece can be maintained and given new life rather than discarded when a sealed LED reaches its end.
Replacement LEDs and shade units are available and professionally fitted.

The oak construction is assembled using discreet magnetic connections, allowing the shade to be easily opened for cleaning and maintenance.
When installed, gravity naturally shapes the form of the pendant, resulting in a unique oval form. Colors shown on screen may vary slightly from the actual product.
The washi paper for the Enso Pendant is unique and therefore every lamp will have its own unique character.

Enso is shipped in a compact tube-shaped package designed for secure transport and efficient storage while minimising unnecessary material waste.
Dust can be removed from both the inside and outside of the shade using a soft dry cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment.
For more thorough cleaning over time, the shade can be carefully opened and placed on a clean surface. Gently wipe using a soft cloth lightly wrung in lukewarm water.
The shape of gravity
The pendant is shaped by the subtle force of imperfection and the lamp itself becomes a collaboration with gravity. First installed, Enso takes on a slightly oval shape, and it slowly settles into its final oval shape.
Never quite perfect, and never quite the same.
Danish meets Japanese design in one pendant
Enso takes its name from the ensō, the Zen circle of Japanese calligraphy - drawn in a single stroke, in the knowledge that a perfect circle is impossible, and that the imperfect is beautiful.
Enso lives out that idea: gravity slowly shapes each pendant from circle toward oval, so no two are ever quite the same.
