Ray Light Sculpture
Designed by AHM x LUND
A circular wooden light-sculpture, crafted from Oregon pine and finished with Uzukuri, a Japanese technique of brushing the surface to expose the contrast between seasonal growth layers.
Ray hangs like a sun on the horizon - 120 cm across, suspended on fine steel wires, with concealed light rising from a slit to one side and raking warmly across the grain.
It lets the material lead: the figure of the pine becomes the hero, the glow almost a glimpse into the living spirit of the wood. A Danish work, made by hand, presented at the Mindcraft Project 2025 and held in the permanent collection of Designmuseum Danmark.

With a circular geometry that references the growth patterns of a tree, Ray allows the natural texture and grain of Oregon pine to take centre stage. A concealed LED strip in a narrow slit at the edge presses light outward through the wood, making the rings of the tree visible as the light moves through harder and softer growth layers.
The result is a lamp that is equal parts sculpture and illuminant, through a form that challenges traditional lighting typologies. Suspended on two slender steel wires that also carry the electrical current, Ray is as considered in its presence as it is in its construction. Because pine is a natural material, the grain and ring pattern vary from piece to piece. No two are identical.

The Mindcraft Project
Created for The Mindcraft Project, Ray has entered the permanent collection of Designmuseum Danmark, an institution that has authored the Danish design narrative from Klint through Wegner, Jacobsen and Henningsen. To enter the collection is to be placed in direct lineage with those icons, written into Denmark's design heritage permanently.
